Disability Grants

This may include but is not limited to: learning support helper; specialist equipment (for example specific software); extra travel costs incurred because of your disability; other disability-related costs of studying. Please note that Inner Temple Disability Awards will not be able to cover costs which any other student/pupil may have, or costs which are not associated with your course/ pupillage.

There is no closing date for applications for the Inner Temple Disability Awards, but to apply you must be a member of Inner Temple and:

  1. Have a confirmed place on a law conversion course (GDL or equivalent); or
  2. Have a confirmed place on a Bar Course; or
  3. Currently, or imminently, undertaking Pupillage

Other sources of support

Disabled Students Allowance

GDL and Bar Course students are eligible to apply for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) via Student Finance England.

As the Inner Temple Disability Award budget is limited, we would advise GDL and Bar Course students to apply for DSA in the first instance. If there are any items which are not covered by DSA, or if you are unable to apply for DSA as you do not fall under their criteria, you should make an application for an Inner Temple Disability award.

More information on DSA can be found here

Course Provider/ Chambers Support

Most GDL and Bar Course providers have their own student disability support services. We advise contacting the course provider you are studying at (or intend the study at), to enquire about the support they offer.
