Are perverse verdicts 'a blatant affront to the legal process and the main purpose of the criminal justice system…?' Sir Robin Auld, 2001 Review of the Criminal Courts of England & Wales.

Or are they an important safeguard of last resort against wrongful imprisonment and government tyranny?
