After 1925: Reflecting on 100 years of Property Legislation
Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, we have had to cancel this event. Speakers: Chief Master Karen Shuman, Professor James Lee, King’s College London, Professor Judith Bourne. Full agenda to follow. In 1925 six Bills relating to property legislation received the Royal Assent which aimed to ‘simplify’ and ‘make certain’ all land transactions, as well as reduce the number of estates, and make negotiations more affordable. • Much of that legislation has now been repealed and replaced but to what extent were these Acts successful in facilitating and securing dealings in land? • Were the hopes of the legislators achieved? • Were the objectives of the Acts accomplished, and if so, how? • What further reforms were/are needed? • Is more legislation required to ensure the secure, effective and affordable dealings in land and property? • What should property regulation look like in 2125? This conference seeks to reflect and analyse ‘after 1925’ Tickets: £25 include tea, coffee and lunch Abstract Submissions Panels and papers of 20 minutes are invited. Abstracts should be no longer than 750 words for panel proposals, and 250 words for individual papers. A 200 word biography of each presenter should also be attached. It is intended that papers from this symposium will be published as a volume. We welcome papers from academics at all stages of their careers, lawyers and independent researchers. Please send your abstracts to Judith.bourne@cilexlawschool.ac.uk Closing date for submissions 17/02/2025
